Hair Restoration
Hair restoration can be done via both surgical and non-surgical means. Based on the condition and hair loss grade on scalp your doctor may propose you any of the following treatments.
- Cyclinical Hair Therapy (Medical Treatment)
- PRP and Mesotherapy
- Lasers for Hair Growth
- Hair Transplant (FUE or FUT)
Medical Treatment
A comprehensive programme crafted and targeted specifically for hair regrowth includes
- 1. A cyclic program: 6 Orals given in a cyclic therapy wherein each is given only twice a week.
- 2. Stimulants: Minoxidil, tripeptide, Laser helmet
- 3. Scalp hygiene: Antidandruf shampoo and daily use shampoo
At an alarming rate, Hair loss is increasing equally in the old and the young. All hair loss patients do not suffer from high DHT levels, high androgens or Harmonal imbalance. Thus hair loss has become a multifactorial disease. Multiple environmental and lifestyle irregularities are the causes of hair loss.
Various factors causing hair loss apart from androgenic alopecia
Internal Factors
- 1. Iron deficiency
- 2. Calcium deficiency
- 3. Zinc deficiency
- 4. Vit A,C,E,D deficiency
- 5. Obesity, Insulin Resistance
- 6. Thyroid imbalance
- 7. Metabolic disorders
- 8. Seborrhoeic Scalp
- 9. Prolonged illness, Surgery
- 10. Prolonged Medication
External Factors
- 1. Smoking active and passive
- 2. Stress
- 3. Alcohol
- 4. Lack of Sleep
- 5. Crash Dieting
- 6. Exposure to excess heat or cold
- 7. Dryness, Poor fluid intake
- 8. Poor Scalp hygiene, dust, pollution
Basis of cyclic treatment
- Instead of fighting the cause the new approach is to strength the roots and promote hair growth.
- In any patient 10-12% of hair are falling
- Hence provide a suitable environment for the other 90% of hairs to grow.
- All cells need toxin free environment-Antioxidants
- Nutrition for cell division- iron, Calcium, Folic Acid, amino acids, B-complex, Biotin
- Diet Chart, Cyclic Medicines, antidandruff Shampoo, Minoxidil,Hair oil, PRP, Laser light all are inclusive in the medical treatment provided at Relive Clinic.
- LLLT is proposed to act by stimulation of mitochondria to produce more ATP and Cyclic AMP with activation of response to oxidative stress, displacing NO (nitric oxide) out of the cells and allowing more oxygen to enter. Released NO also induces vasodilatation and improves blood flow to the hair roots. In our practice LLLT may not be advised alone but has benefit when used as adjunct to the medicines and also helps in post transplant cases.
Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy in Hair Restoration - PRP Therapy
We have been performing PRP therapy as a proactive therapeutic option for male patients, experiencing hair loss. PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth for hair loss conditions.
HOW DOES PRP WORK?
Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells, and autologous blood products that contain essential and specific growth factors that assist in tissue regeneration and healing. Published medical literature from Europe and the United States confirms the safety and use of PRP therapy. In the field of hair restoration, evidence supports PRP therapy as a promising treatment option to promote hair growth. No claim can be made of its efficacy.
While PRP is in the early stages of scientific research in hair restoration, PRP is not meant to replace current FDA approved therapies such as DHT blockers and Minoxidil. But it is a promising non-surgical therapeutic option for those patients with hair loss.
HOW DO YOU PERFORM THE PROCEDURE?
Blood is drawn in our office as though you are having routine blood testing at your primary care physician’s office. The blood is spun in a centrifuge and the PRP is separated, and removed from the rest of the blood.
The PRP is taken from your body and is specially prepared by spinning down the blood cells to a high concentration. An anesthesia block is given to nerves of the scalp so the patient does not feel any pain. The highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the scalp. The patient’s hair is then washed and the patient may drive home without any assistance.
PRP contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth. PRP can be used pre-operatively, intraoperatively, or post-operatively. Some patient’s chose to have PRP performed every three (3) to four (4) months as early data suggests regular or semi-annual PRP treatments that may stimulate hair growth.
DOES PRP WORK?
Individual results vary with each patient. No guarantees of success can be made but PRP preliminary studies indicate patients can respond to PRP therapy. Some hair restoration surgeons apply PRP to the scalp for those patients who are not surgical candidates every three (3) to four (4) months. Other protocols will use PRP before or during surgery to insure graft survivability.
PRP
PRP is a potential emerging non-surgical based therapy for natural hair follicle stimulation for thinning hair. Larger clinical studies are pending but the current medical literature contains numerous optimistic results. Although a few controlled studies exist, anecdotal and case reports are the primary sources reflecting success with PRP therapy.
WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE PRP TREATMENT?
Patients with history of heavy smoking, drug and alcohol use. Medical diagnosis such as platelet dysfunction syndromes, thrombocytopenias, hypofibrinogenaemia, hemodynamic instability, sepsis, acute and chronic Infections, chronic liver disease, anti-coagulation therapy, chronic skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders.
IS PRP FOR ME?
PRP has been used successfully in other medical and surgical disciplines for many years. The decision to use PRP is a personal decision and should be made after careful research, consideration and consultation with a physician. Extensive clinical trials are not complete and medical data is not yet published to establish the absolute effectiveness of PRP therapy in hair restoration. PRP should not be considered a “cure” for hair loss and no guarantee can be made about its individual effectiveness. No claim of PRP efficacy in promoting hair growth can be made because there is no FDA approval that would allow such claims to be made.
CAN I USE OTHER MEDICAL THERAPIES CONCURRENTLY?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it and prescribe PRP therapy as a compliment to a non-surgical approach for those patients who are not eligible for surgery or who want to delay hair restoration surgery. As a non-surgical treatment option, we recommend PRP therapy along with Minoxidil and DHT blockers or for those patients who can not tolerate or have side effects with these medications.
Lasers for Hair Growth
Hungarian researcher Mester in 1967, found ruby lasers increased hair growth on backs of shaved mice. This was the first report of hair growth benefits via user of laser therapy. Hair Growth with special low light laser therapy popularly called LLLT is a USFDA approved treatment to Hair Loss.
- Hair growth lasers acts by improving the blood flow and oxygenation to hair roots.
- It is especially useful for hair re-growth over the crown area.
- Hair growth lasers control over the activity of oil, sebum glands, reduce irritation and reduces dandruff.
- In addition to the roots that are growing hair, there are at least 30% more which are lying dormant or at sleeping stage. These can be awakened via LLLT and recruited back in hair growth stage.
Hair growth lasers work scientifically in the following manager
- Enhance the oxygen exchange chain in Mitochondria, leading to more ATP and Cyclic AMP formation.
- Displacement of Nitric Oxide and Toxins out of the cells allowing more oxygen to enter for better growth.
- Induced angiogenesis, forming new blood vessels around the hair follicles.
- Reduce inflammation and activates response to Reactive Oxygen Species – ROS.
