Myths

Myth #1

If you are not sure about having a hair transplant, try a small procedure first to see if the procedure is for you.

Hair Transplant is a surgical procedure. A transplant cannot be left half done or undone. It is best to do your research first and only go forward with hair restoration surgery after you are confident in the procedure, and the physician you have chosen.

Myth #2

A doctor can tell if you have plenty of hair for a hair transplant just by looking.

To best assess a person’s donor supply there are several factors that should be considered. The physician should examine the person’s scalp using a densitometer, an instrument that magnifies a section of the scalp that can take accurate measurements of hair density. The patient’s scalp laxity is another important determinant of how much hair is available for a hair transplant. This can only be assessed by moving the scalp with an “experienced” hand.

Myth #3

The larger the number of grafts transplanted in one session the better.

Although it is better to move hair in large hair transplant sessions – to minimize donor scarring and have each procedure look as natural as possible – sessions that are too greater risk sub-optimal growth and may force the doctor to transplant hair into areas that are not ideal.

Myth #4

When large numbers of grafts are transplanted, they do not get enough blood supply.

The blood supply of the scalp is so great and it is so collateralized that it can sustain the growth of thousands of newly transplant grafts at one time. However, there are limitations. If the grafts are too large or if the sites are placed too close together the blood supply can be overwhelmed resulting in poor growth.

Myth #5

It is better to have a hair transplant when you are young.

In general, there is greater chance of having a successful hair transplant and a satisfied patient when a person is older, rather than younger. When hair loss starts at an early age, the pattern is unpredictable and the hair loss has a greater chance of being extensive in the future.

Myth #6

Because the newer techniques are so good, most women can benefit from hair transplantation – just like men.

Despite the great advances in surgical hair restoration, until the advent of cloning, doctors are still limited by a person’s finite donor supply. In many women who are experiencing hair loss, their donor area is thinning as well as other parts of the scalp, making hair transplantation ineffective.

Myth #7

Laser hair transplants are state-of-the-art.

Although many people think that “laser hair transplants” are a state-of-the-art procedure, lasers were introduced to hair transplantation over a dozen years ago – and are not used by the most experienced hair transplant surgeons. In fact, laser hair transplants are really a misnomer, since the only part of the surgery that lasers have ever been used for is to make the recipient sites (the holes that the grafts are place into).

FAQs

What is Hair Transplantation?

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure in which hair is moved from the back and/or sides of the scalp, where it is permanent (donor area), to areas that are thinning or bald on the front, top, or crown of the scalp (recipient area). Once transplanted, the hair will continue to grow for a person’s lifetime. At Relive Clinic we perform the the most effective type of hair restoration procedures, Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

What is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)?

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a method of extracting, follicular units one-by-one directly from the scalp. In FUE, an instrument is used to make small, circular incisions in the skin around follicular units, separating them from the surrounding tissue. The follicular unit is then extracted (pulled) directly from the scalp, leaving a small open hole that heals with a small white mark.

This method of donor harvesting is what differentiates the FUE procedure from Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), in which the donor hair is removed in a long strip that is dissected into individual follicular units under a stereo-microscope. The creation of recipient sites and the placing of follicular unit grafts are essentially the same in FUE and FUT procedures.

The FUE technique was conceived by Dr. Ray Woods in the 1990s in Australia and was introduced into the medical literature by Rassman and Bernstein in 2002.

What is a Robotic Hair Transplant?

In Robotic FUE hair transplant procedures, follicular units are isolated using the ARTAS robotic system. The ARTAS system is a computerized, image-guided robot that automates the labor-intensive process of extracting hundreds or thousands of grafts in a session. Its advantage over other FUE techniques is due to its precision and consistency in extracting grafts.

What Does a Hair Transplant Cost?

The cost varies depending on the number of grafts transplanted. Contact our staff at 98 1966 6311 to ask any questions about the cost of a hair transplant procedure or available payment options.

How Long Does a Procedure Take?

Smaller sessions of FUE (less than 800 grafts) can take about 4 hours, while larger ones (2500 grafts or more) can take all day. Sometimes large sessions of FUE are split over two days.
